I’ve been making time to walk with my family at weekends.
This weekend it was 11 miles across the South Downs with Lucy and the kids, pubs along the way.
We’d heard about the Blood Moon, so we bundled the kids into the car and drove up to Butser Hill.
Everyone else had the same idea. The place was rammed. I’d thought we’d sit in the car, but instead I ended up running around in the cold with my son to keep warm while Lucy and Arya stayed up top.
In the end, we all saw it… a moon that looked much like any other (to my eyes at least), but it was worth the effort to spend time with family.
It got me thinking about making the most of your time where you’re really needed.
This week has been a busy one and we’re in full swing preparing for Retail Risk – Leicester. This time, I’ll be presenting. Which meant I couldn’t make it to Retail Risk – On The Move. My time was needed elsewhere…
Frazer and I have been working on a new project, and I’ll be covering the operational and compliance side when we launch it.
That’s where I can make the most difference, so that’s where I showed up.
That’s the moral for me this week: you can’t be everywhere.
Whether it’s family life, weekend walks, or business commitments, the question is always about where your presence is worth the effort.
For me, leadership isn’t just about showing up but choosing the places where showing up matters most.
