The Challenge

Across the UK, thousands of commercial sites operate in a security grey zone. Construction compounds holding hundreds of thousands of pounds of plant and materials. Vacant properties, former retail units, mothballed industrial premises, development sites awaiting planning, can be sometimes sitting unoccupied and unprotected for months at a time. Temporary retail and market environments carrying high-value stock in locations with no permanent infrastructure. These sites share a common profile: high theft risk, limited or no on-site power, no functioning alarm system, and response times (when incidents occur) that run to minutes while the damage is done in seconds.

The security industry has effective tools for many of these environments. ASEL’s WASP system — a rapidly deployable wireless alarm and detection tower — was built specifically for sites that can’t wait for permanent infrastructure. Battery-powered, self-contained, operational within a day. It detects intrusion. It alerts. It records. But detection alone does not stop a raid in progress. What these sites had consistently lacked was an active deterrent capable of operating the moment an intruder was identified, something that could close the gap between alarm and outcome without depending on a response that might be fifteen minutes away.

ASEL had already deployed Smoke Screen fog systems across a number of fixed client sites and understood their effectiveness as an active deterrent. Fog doesn’t wait for a response — it acts. When triggered, security fog rapidly deploys a dense disruption cloud, disorientating intruders and obscuring stock, making it impossible to operate within the protected space. Can’t see it, can’t steal it. The technology works. The problem was installation: a conventional fog system requires a hardwired mains connection.

 ASEL brought that constraint to Smoke Screen as a specific challenge: could a fog deterrent be integrated into the WASP X without any dependency on mains power or alarm infrastructure?

The answer required a fog system that could match the WASP X’s own standalone capability, self-contained, battery-independent, deployable without a power supply or alarm panel on site. Working together, ASEL and Smoke Screen identified that Sentinel Go’s own battery could be supplemented directly from the WASP’s solar input, removing every remaining installation dependency. No hardwired connection. No electrician. No additional infrastructure. Fog deterrence, finally available on the sites that had always needed it most.

The Solution: Sentinel Go inside WASP X

ASEL’s integration of Sentinel Go into the WASP X chassis creates a single deployable unit that combines perimeter intrusion detection with active fog deterrence, with no requirement for mains power, a dedicated alarm panel, or an electrician on site.

How the integration works

• The WASP X detects an intruder via its 360-degree infrared motion sensors
• The detection signal triggers Sentinel Go, which rapidly deploys dense fog as an active disruption, disorientating the intruder and obscuring stock and exits
• The intruder cannot see the stock causing confusion and disruption
• Simultaneously, the WASP activates its 110dB audio warning, blue strobe, and floodlights
• ASEL’s NSI Gold-certified ARC receives real-time HD footage and manages the response
• The entire sequence operates from battery power, with Sentinel Go powered by it’s own internal batteries.

Why We Chose Sentinel Go

Sentinel Go is the UK’s first portable battery-powered security fog system. Unlike conventional fog units that require a hardwired fused spur connection, Sentinel Go can be powered in a variety of ways: internal batteries, trickle charge from compatible PIDs or existing alarm panels, mains via transformer, or, as in the ASEL integration, trickle charged from the WASP’s solar input. This flexibility makes it deployable across a far wider range of sites than any previous fog system.

This makes it uniquely suited to the WASP X deployment environment, sites that are temporary, vacant, off-grid, or lacking alarm infrastructure. The WASP X already operates independently of mains power via its standalone battery supply. Adding Sentinel Go to that ecosystem required no additional power infrastructure and removed the last remaining barrier to fog deployment at these site types.
